The ripe fruit was longitudinally divided in two; we see black seeds in a white and viscous pulp, which has a sweetened taste. The pulp is edible but there is too little in this fruit contrary to some cacti fruits whose pulp is widely consumed. Amongst the epiphytic cacti, the fruits of Hylocereus undatus and other Hylocereus are commonly consumed (Dragon Fruit or Pitaya with white, pink or red flesh), as well as the fruits of Selenicereus megalanthus (yellow Pitaya). As for nonepiphytic cacti, there is obviously the prickly pear, fruit of Opuntia ficus-indica.
