Epiphyllum x 'Chameleon' : (Hybrid created by Rudolf Hessing)

blooming on 2014/01/05 in my collection.

pedigree of the hybrid:

mother: Epiphyllum x 'Peaches 'n' Cream'
father: Epiphyllum x 'Frühlingsabend'

size of the bloom: 10 cm (4 in)

usual blooming period noticed by Rudolf in his collection: March, April.

This Epiphyllum has blooms which change colours over the period following the blossoming: at the beginning, they are tender pink, then in a few days the color becomes deep orange-red. We can see this phenomenon on the photograph above where you can observe two blooms which did not open on the same day.

Over the next years I hope I will have the opportunity to add other winter blooming hybrids in this article which I wrote after understanding the basic rules of how to obtain it.
