Here is the electric water pump and the indoor barrel
that I always keep full, by taking advantage of the periods of warmer temperatures.
This barrel is used for waterings in winter, when
the outdoor barrels are frozen. It is filled by the pump and outdoor barrels.
The temperature of the garage must be maintained above 0°C
(32,00°F) for the safety of the pump, which requires the
use of a small electric oil-filled radiator located close to the pump when
it is very cold outside.
I also protect the pump by a bonded wood formwork covered with a sheet of
roof insulator. This formwork is not visible on the photograph.
Copper piping is also protected by polyethylene pipes for insulation.
The indoor barrel does not resist frost; one will notice its more brilliant
aspect than the one of the outdoor barrels; the plastic of this barrel has
also a more rigid consistency. These criteria can be useful for the purchase
of a barrel due to the fact that some salesmen will not hesitate
to declare as frost-resistant barrels which are not.
