Three empty pots and the dry substrate to fill them.
I use black plastic pots of 10x10x12cm for each Epiphyllum cutting. The cuttings spend one to two years in these pots, before being repotted in larger pots with a slightly different substrate. Choose quality pots with not too thin walls.
The cuttings substrate and the substrate for adult Epiphyllum differ only in the proportion of silica sand (non-calcareous).
In the substrate for cuttings, I am much more generous in quartz gravel (coarse sand), as (non-calcareous) sand is an excellent rooting soil.
The substrate for adult Epiphyllum is a mixture of equal parts leaf compost, horticultural garden soil, heather soil, and perlite plus half a proportion of aquarium-type quartz gravel (grain size 0.5 to 2mm).
In addition, I add the slow release Osmocote cactus granular fertiliser as soon as I cut the cuttings. But this is not mandatory.
