After being cut, the cutting should heal for about 2 weeks. You can cover the unhealed part with a little cinnamon powder which is antiseptic and antifungal. The cuttings will then be placed flat on a newspaper in a cool, bright place without direct sunlight and well ventilated.

You will notice that the stem on the right has been bevelled at the base to promote root formation near the central vascular canal.
You can take advantage of the healing period to prepare the next step, i.e. planting.
