I decided (too late in my opinion) to create my first own hybrids. I say “too late” because between the pollination and the observation of the first blooms resulting from the sown seeds, it's necessary to count a time of approximately 5 years minimum if all occurs well.
I started with two sowings made in 2012 or 2013:
1- The first is a sowing of Epiphyllum X 'Pegasus' pollinated by Epiphyllum X 'Pink Parrot'.
I sowed the fruit obtained and I transplanted the seedlings approximately 1 year after in a rectangular rail planter so that the ground remains longer wet between two waterings. The growth seems faster to me than transplanting in small individual pots. I saw the first blooms in spring 2017: the first three plants which gave me each one a flower. I temporarily called the hybrids mc1, mc2 and mc3. There is nothing more to do but to wait for the others…
The photos of the blooms indicate that the first results are encouraging but will not appear as exceptional hybrids.
2- The second sowing comes from a fruit that Thierry Lefort gave me. It is a fruit collected on Epiphyllum X 'Hot 'N Spicy' pollinated by a bee or the wind.
I proceeded as for the first sowing and obtained in 2017 the first flower of one of the plants resulting from sowing. I gave to the hybrid the name tl1
Here are photographs of the first hybrids:
