To begin this series, I would like to say some words in connection with the ambiguous expression “hybrid Epiphyllum”. Which plants does it include?
At the beginning, there is the genus “Epiphyllum” made up of botanical species. Here, I will call them “botanical Epiphyllum”.
One could believe that a “hybrid Epiphyllum” was obtained by crossing several botanic and/or hybrid Epiphyllum. Indeed, crossing two botanical or hybrid Epiphyllum gives a hybrid Epiphyllum. But reality is more complicated.
Pedigree of hybrid Epiphyllum, when it is entirely known, which is seldom the case, may contain several genera: Epiphyllum (botanical of course) but also, and without quoting them all, Disocactus, Hylocereus, Selenicereus, Weberocereus, and I must forget some. It may even be that there is no Epiphyllum (botanical or hybrid) in the pedigree of a hybrid Epiphyllum. In this last case, the expression “hybrid Epiphyllum” is an enormous abuse of language.
This is why some books speak about "Epicactus" instead of hybrid Epiphyllum. But there too, it would be necessary to agree on the exact significance of the word “Epicactus”.
As for me, I will continue to use the expression “hybrid Epiphyllum”, like an abuse of language, and with all the reserves from which I was speaking.
And now, let us continue to admire the blooms!

Your constructive opinion will be welcome!!
