DISOCACTUS QUEZALTECUS

photo 3/5

On this photograph, we see a completely open bloom. It will not open more and it's normal. The stamens and the pistil are apparent.

The open bloom is approximately 9 cm long and approximately 5 mm maximum wide.

Disocactus quezaltecus is a not very common species in collection. It should be recognized that its blooming, although original, is not especially spectacular. I bought the plant in 1995 in an international meeting for cacti fans. Since this time I haven’t seen it for sale in this meeting any more. It spent several years to be established in my collection, then it started to bloom after being repotted in a most organic compost than the compost in which it was when I bought it. Then, for reasons that I badly understand, it started to suffer necrosis. I had to propagate it by cuttings. To my great delight, it has just bloomed again this spring 2017.
