The plant photographed here was bought from a grower of Northern Europe, who practices methods of cultivation made to obtain plants as soon as possible. They are often cultivated in a quite sterile peat and are (too much) abundantly fed by the fertilizers contained in the water of watering (hydroponic cultivation).

The young stems photographed here show at the same time vegetative (general shape) and floral traits (tiny pink petals at the areolas). One can suppose that at the beginning these stems were floral buds which, being too much fed, transformed into stems.

I already spoke about this question in the article concerning “the undecided cactus

Such plants can only be cultivated and kept for a long time in a collection as long as they repotted after blooming and put to grow into a classical compost (provided the hydroponic cultivation continues!!)
I will soon tackle the explanations about the method which I use to keep these plants in classical cultivation.
