Here is a detail of the seedlings, photographed the same day (two days after sowing). One could believe to see the first two stems of each seedling ; this is not the case. The two parts which start to move away from each other are the two cotyledons already present in each seed; these cotyledons contain nutritive reserves which allow the beginning of germination. They start to have a green colour ; they ensure the chlorophyllian synthesis. The cotyledons are above the ground surface (epigeous germination) contrary to what occurs witn other seeds like garden peas (hypogeous germination).
