2002 bloom ........... 2004 bloom (detail) .................................................... 2009 bloom ................... 2009 bloom (detail)
The four photographs mentioned above are those of the same plant of Epiphyllum X “Whirlibird” whose cutting was given to me in 1995. The first two photographs (2002 and 2004) are in conformity with the description given in the repertory of the ESA. Following the last repotting of 2006, the plant did not bloom for two years. This year it gave three blooms on the same stem. Two of these flowers fell through just before blossoming; the third one opened and gave the striated colours of the two last photographs. I think that the stem which bloomed didn’t have enough strength to carry out to the end the blossoming of the three large-sized flowers, which perhaps also caused the variation of the colors.

2003 bloom ......................................... 2008 bloom .............................................. photo 2009
These three photographs result from the same plant of Nopalxochia horichii coming from a cutting bought in 1994. The flower is rather variable, as much for the color, as for the shape of the petals. Depending on the years, it was wintered in more or less sunny locations. During the winter 2008-2009, as a result of an imbalance of the stems, the roots lump was mainly outside the pot and the hydration of the compost was of this fact more irregular and parsimonious.
