Las palabras "Epiphyllum híbrido" constituyen un abuso del lenguaje del que hay que ser consciente.
"Epiphyllum" es un género de cactus epífitos botánicos. "Epiphyllum híbrido" sólo es consistente para el cruce de dos o más Epiphyllum. Pero sucede que, en el pedigrí de un Epiphyllum híbrido, a veces hay varios géneros: Epiphyllum, Disocactus, Selenicereus, Heliocereus, Hylocereus, y puede ser otros más. Incluso puede ser que el pedigrí de un Epiphyllum híbrido no contenga ningún Epiphyllum, lo que se convierte en una tontería.
Algunos autores se refieren a "Epicactus" en lugar de "Epiphyllum híbrido". Seguiré usando "Epiphyllum híbrido" por conveniencia y porque la palabra "Epicactus" debe ser definida con precisión.
