MY PLANTS ARE ON HOLIDAY IN THE GARDEN

August is the month when I often travel to remote destinations. My plants remain in the garden where I carried them end of June. They will leave this place some time in September to come back to my greenhouse for the winter season.

During the summer, the rain sprinkles my collection, with the invaluable assistance of a friend who intervenes during the exceptionally dry periods, as we had during summer 2003. As my plants are outside, I can treat them against parasites, pests and diseases in July. This treatment is both curative and preventive, and it's the only one for the whole year.

I hang my pots to a metallic frame (photo 1) located in the shade of trees (birches, maple, pine) which filter the sun rays and ensure (at least I hope) an effective protection against possible hail storms. I tried to add nettings but they disrupt the regularity of rain watering.

The most shaded locations are occupied by Rhipsalis (photo 2) as well as Rhipsalidopsis and Schlumbergera (photo 3) .Then, I hang botanic and hybrid Epiphyllum (photo 4) and (photo 5) . The sunniest part is occupied by Aporocactus and Aporophyllum (photo 6) . On the ground I also put wood pallets on which I put the young cuttings and plants which are not yet in hanging pots (photo 7) .

I put the non-epiphytic part of my collection on pallets laid on my lawn, right in the sun.

During the summer, my greenhouse/veranda is empty (photo 8) and I take advantage of this to clean it before the beginning of autumn. From September to November, I put all my plants in my greenhouse for the winter season.
